I think my housing is now taken care of

I can never be sure about these things, but it appears that I will be receiving an apartment on campus. The woman I spoke to on the phone had me convinced I have a Towersview apartment, and then I gave my credit card information to pay the $250 deposit. So, either I have an apartment now at UOP, or I paid $250 to some woman's embezzlement fund. Sometimes, it would just be nice to get a solid "yes" rather than the ambiguous kind of "yeah".

I'm starting to look around the current apartment and realize how much needs to be taken care of before I go. Ugh.

On a positive note, I sold both an old laptop and my mini washing machine. I sold them pretty low, so I didn't think it would be that hard to sell them, but at least they are now with people who can use them, and I got a little bit of money out of the deal as well.

I put out a personal on craigslist a few days ago, and surprisingly, I've received a few positive responses. If they pan out, I hope to make some new friends, and maybe a girlfriend, soon after I get back to California. Michigan was like kryptonite to me.

Finding a place in Stockton

Well, I tried to put in my notice at work today, but I couldn't get a moment in with my boss to do so. I hope I don't end up having to just leave her a letter in her mailbox. That just seems so wrong.

I'm leaving my job on the 17th of August. I'll probably be leaving for California soon after that. Like the next day.

Now I'm just trying to finish up the process of locating a place to live. I have someone I'm talking to I got in communication with through Craigslist, so I hope that works out. I have to send a lot of my stuff through the mail, so I have to make sure that's not going to be a problem, even if it means throwing a bunch of the incoming stuff into a storage locker for the duration of my time in school. Most of my larger stuff, like furniture, is probably not coming with me.

I seem to be stressing a lot lately getting ready for this change. I don't sleep that much these days. Oh well.

Lois, stop the presses! More current news!

Graduate School
I received an email this evening from the University of the Pacific, assuring me that I have in fact been accepted and will be receiving a full TA position as well. I was told that the details will be sent as an attachment to me sometime tomorrow. I guess that all I have to do is make sure that I can assure myself that I can survive off of the assistantship, and I'm ready to go.

I'm still not sure where I'll be living. I have been contacted by people with apartments and rooms in the Stockton area, but I keep telling them I cannot make a decision until I have definite information from UOP. It looks like that is going to be happening very soon.

Novel: To Touch the Unicorn
This was the third novel I wrote. And I've rewritten it at least three times because the events of the novel have to keep being changed because the world kept changing (it was a Cold War-era novel). Well, I've been thinking about this novel a lot because my changes kept mixing up the story, but now I finally have the exact time period where this novel really does fit. Now, I'm researching the August 1991 Soviet coup, and then I will probably rewrite this novel for the last time. It's actually a really cool concept for a novel and the story is definitely one that I am proud of.

Thompson's Bounty
I received an interesting email today that indicated that a lot of people have seen my novel. I'm finding that hard to believe. But the royalty statements get delivered in August, so I'll see further when that happens.

Tidbits
Ordered contact lenses today. Figured I might as well take advantage of my eye coverage while I still have it. With my coverage, it will cost me $123 for them, but that gets refunded to me because I've been putting money into a medical fund that allows withdrawals for eye coverage. So that's kind of cool.

Waiting for some official word

I swear...the waiting process is the hardest part to take. I am waiting on the "official" notification from UOP, but at the same time I am waiting to find out what the TA details will be as well. I'm kind of stuck in limbo land until I find out, and it's kind of frustrating to make long term plans based on little knowledge of what's happening in the very near future.

I am also unsure of what's going to happen with the occupation plan. I know the background investigation will take awhile, so I don't know if it will work with my school plans or not. I'd love for it to work with it cause the job is exactly what I love to do. If not, well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, I guess.

Little by little, I'm saving up money for the big move. It's really hard to save money sometimes, but I'm consistently putting money away every paycheck for the move. I just hope it's enough when the time comes.

Superman Returns

I saw Superman Returns this evening with my friend Jason. From all of the reviews beforehand, I was sure I would be struck by tons of mistakes and bad decisions in filmmaking with this movie, but all I could think after it was over was how good a movie this was, how much I enjoyed it, and how much it actually succeeded in achieving its sole purpose: Entertainment. The first big scene with Superman is freaking huge and it practically blew me away. Unlike other superhero movies, this scene even gave me the feeling that he might not succeed, even though you know it's Superman and he has to succeed; it was that powerful a scene and so over the top that only one superhero could ever pull it off. Fortunately, it was the right superhero for the moment.

I really enjoyed this movie. I haven't seen all that many great movies in a long time, so I was pleasantly overjoyed at this one.
